Jungle Carpet Pythons

I acquired my first Jungle Carpet Python at a reptile show in Colorado. The bright yellow and jet black coloration of these animals is what really attracted me to these snakes. When I first started working with this beautiful arboreal species I must admit it wasn’t my favorite. The juveniles can be (and usually are) nippy, which takes time getting used to. Also, some individuals are notorious for not liking rats, which can be frustrating when trying to efficiently raise these snakes from hatchlings to healthy breeding adults. Nevertheless, many adults can effectively be coaxed into taking rats and with gentle handling can become very predictable non-aggressive individuals. With time one can’t help but realize just how impressive quality Jungle Carpet Pythons look – especially into early adulthood. Furthermore, these pythons are possibly the most forgiving of husbandry mistakes – more so than other constrictors I’ve worked with. Jungle Carpet Pythons seem to thrive in captivity and are by no means picky eaters once they are established. All in all I must say these snakes have become one of my favorite species of python. Many of my JCPs have very interesting and just plain sweet personalities.
